Bangladesh Bank has granted general permission (Notification No. FE-1/16-BB, 20 January 2016) for an incoming passenger, regardless of residency, to bring gold or silver in bullion or ingot form into Bangladesh up to the limit set by the Customs Act's Baggage Rules currently in force. Under the 2025 Baggage Rules that limit is 117 g (10 bhori) of gold bar/ingot or 234 g (20 bhori) of silver bar/ingot, dutiable and declared once per calendar year, separate from a fully duty-free allowance of up to 100 g of gold ornaments or 200 g of silver ornaments (no more than 12 pieces of the same type). Bringing in gold or silver bar/ingot beyond these limits, or concealed, is confiscated under the Customs Act. Import of jewellery and precious stones generally carries no restriction under the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, 1947, beyond the Import Trade Control Regulations.
